Sattahip —

The Royal Thai Fleet in Chonburi’s Sattahip district seized an illegal oil-carrying vessel in the Gulf of Thailand on January 22nd, 2024.

Acting on a tip, naval forces intercepted and detained the vessel near Ta Lu Island in Rayong province. According to reports, the vessel had been illegally modified to transport oil after it was originally registered as a general cargo ship. Upon inspection, Thai authorities discovered 104,000 liters of allegedly tax-evaded diesel fuel and three crew members onboard.

The vessel was escorted to the Naval Command Headquarters in Sattahip for further investigation. The crew members, meanwhile, are being investigated by relevant officials although their identities have been withheld as of press time.

The successful operation was a coordinated effort between the Center for Maintaining National Maritime Interests Region 1, the Excise Department, the Marine Office’s Pattaya and Rayong Branches, and the Chonburi Provincial Fisheries Office.
