Chonburi —

Charnathip Thongkam, a talented young sailor from Plutaluang Wittaya School in Chonburi, has emerged victorious in the ILCA 4 category (under 18) at the recently concluded Children’s Day Regatta 2024 sailing competition.

The event, held from January 19th to the 21st at Dong Tan Beach, Sattahip, saw Charnathip display exceptional skills and bring home the championship title for his school.

Organized by the Chonburi Provincial Administration in collaboration with the Thai Sailing Association, the Children’s Day Regatta aimed to promote sports participation among children and youth while fostering an appreciation for marine conservation and responsible leisure activities. Sailing, in particular, was chosen as a way to highlight the region’s beautiful coastline and stimulate the local economy through sports tourism.

The competition featured three main categories with a total of 10 divisions, providing opportunities for sailors of various ages and experience levels to compete. These included:

  • 420 Category: Open to competitors under 18 years old.
  • ILCA 4 Category: Divided into under 15 and under 18 age groups.
  • Optimist Category: Further divided into Gold Fleet (boys and girls), Silver Fleet (boys and girls), Green Fleet (boys and girls), and Newborn Fleet (ages not exceeding 12).

Charnathip, a Mathayom 4 high school student, rose to the top in the ILCA 4 category, showcasing impressive sailing skills and tactical maneuvering throughout the three-day event. His victory not only marks a personal achievement but also brings immense pride to the Plutaluang Wittaya School and the Chonburi community.
