Pattaya Area Bird Trapper Electrocuted, Another Seriously Injured

Pattaya —

Two Thai men have been electrocuted by a high-voltage power line while engaged in bird trapping activities near Thammasat University’s Pattaya Campus on Wednesday. The incident claimed the life of one man and left severe burns for the other.

At approximately 5:30 PM on January 17th, Pattaya police were notified of the incident, which occurred in the vicinity of Thammasat University’s Pattaya Campus, Moo 5, Pong sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Upon arrival, authorities found a fire with a radius of approximately 400 meters, and within the fire zone, discovered the bodies of two Thai men who had been severely burned.

One of the men, identified as Mr. Kritsana Namdokmai, 35, succumbed to his injuries at the scene after suffering burns to nearly 80% of his body. Another man, Mr. Kananek Wasanti, 37, survived the incident but sustained severe burns to his face, both legs, and mid-back. He was transported to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for emergency treatment.

Pattaya police found at the scene a bird cage, with a live dove inside, and a completely burned aluminum pipe measuring around 10 meters long.

According to Mr. Kritsana’s father, Pong Namdokmai, 72, his son and his friend were setting up bird traps in the area when the incident occurred. He believed that an aluminum pipe held by his son accidentally came into contact with a high-voltage power line above, resulting in a violent electrical shock. The shock killed his son and also triggered a wildfire that affected the surrounding grassland.

The body of Kritsana was sent to Banglamung Hospital for detailed forensic examination, and the injured individual is receiving medical treatment at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. Police are currently investigating the incident to determine the precise cause.
