On January 17th, 2024, Muang Maha Sarakham police officers captured a suspect, according to an arrest warrant from the Maha Sarakham Provincial Court, who allegedly murdered and hid a girl’s body.

According to a report by the police, the suspect, publicly identified only as Mr. Suwan, 33, allegedly committed murder by strangling his girlfriend, Ms. Daraporn Phonsi, 30, to her death and hid the body in a forest in Ban Nong Phot, Mueang, Maha Sarakham.

After committing the alleged crimes, Suwan reportedly fled to Khon Kaen to avoid being arrested, said the police.

The suspect reportedly confessed to the police that he had been with Daraporn for more than 2 years, however, they allegedly had personal conflicts regularly. On the incident day, on January 15th, the suspect allegedly had a fierce quarrel with his girlfriend and strangled her before digging a grave to hide the body in a forest nearby.

Suwan, the suspect, had previously been acquitted in early 2022 for illicit substance offenses and served 4 years of imprisonment before living with Daraporn, reported Thai media.

Initially, the police escorted Suwan to the Muang Maha Sarakham police station for further legal processing.
