On January 10th, 2024, Pol. Lt. Gen. Thaweesilp Wechavitarn, the chief medical officer of Police General Hospital, welcomed a visit requested by the Police Commission on January 12th.
Chaichana publicly revealed that the committee would inquire about the treatment processes for each patient receiving medical care from the Police General Hospital.
Furthermore, the committee would personally inquire with patients about medical treatment and whether they have access to the same treatment as Thaksin, who is currently administered on the 14th floor, or not, said Chaichana.
Chaichana stated that the committee would fully prosecute the law against those who give special privileges to patients and would further investigate relevant documentation regarding the proper legal regulations for handling sick prisoners from the Thai Ministry of Justice and the Department of Corrections.
Additionally, the Thai Medical Council had previously stated that the personal information regarding Thaksin’s health conditions was withheld according to the principles of medical ethics and privacy.
However, Chaichana publicly stated that he was more interested in the medical processes of those who were administered on the 14th floor, the number of patients, and how they were treated versus probing into personal health issues. Chaichana has said the main focus is equal rights to all prisoners and equal treatment and to ensure no prisoner, no matter how famous or affluent, had any special privileges.
