Pattaya City Welcomes Chinese Square Dance Winners in Cultural Exchange

Pattaya —

Pattaya City officials warmly welcomed a group of Chinese square dance champions on Tuesday to promote tourism and build confidence among elderly Chinese travelers.

Mr. Siwat Boongerd, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Pattaya, welcomed the winners of the square dance competition from China at a ceremony held at Pattaya Beach on January 9th.

This collaboration, representing a strategic partnership between Pattaya City and Sichuan TV, aimed to promote Pattaya’s tourism to senior citizens from China. The program saw a group of 20 Chinese square dance champions, winners of Sichuan TV’s “Wu Wu Sheng Feng” program, embark on a weeklong journey from January 6th to the 11th of 2024, in Thailand.

Their itinerary included visits to various tourist attractions along the Bangkok-Pattaya route, which culminated in cultural exchange performances with local senior citizens on Pattaya’s beachfront. The heartwarming event was captured by Sichuan TV for broadcast on popular programs like “Pleasant Trip” and “News Live Program,” further amplified by online platforms like Douyin, Bilili, and WeChat VDO. The event is expected to attract over 15 million viewers.

Beyond promoting Pattaya’s tourism appeal to Chinese audiences, this initiative also aimed to instill confidence in elderly Chinese travelers considering a trip to Pattaya. This demographic, aged over 60, represents an important market as well as aligns perfectly with the Thai government’s policy of visa-free entry for Chinese tourists.
