On January 3rd at 9:00 PM, Pol. Lt. Col. Sittiporn Taethiang, deputy investigator of Pattaya Police Station, led a team of detectives to a residence in Soi Nong Ket Yai 14, Nong Pla Lai sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. There, they apprehended Mr. Somwang “Nok” Ruencharoen, a 48-year-old Thai man who was suspected of stealing a wheelchair-puller from Ms. Alisa Umsin, a 20-year-old paralyzed woman.

Authorities recovered the device from Mr. Somwang’s residence. According to Pol. Lt. Col. Sittiporn, Pattaya police immediately launched an investigation after Ms. Alisa reported the theft earlier this week.

Pol. Lt. Col. Sittiporn revealed that CCTV footage showed Mr. Somwang arriving at the scene in a pickup truck, taking the device, and driving away. Investigators were quickly able to identify him from the footage and subsequently apprehended him.

However, during questioning, Mr. Somwang only admitted to taking the device but denied stealing it. He claimed that, as a waste collector, he found the equipment near a trash pile and assumed it was discarded. He stated he took it home for his grandchildren to play with and expressed regret for his actions.

Mr. Somwang remains in police custody while the recovered device will be returned to the victim. Police continue to consider Mr. Somwang’s statements as of press time.
