On December 28th, 2023, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) officials publicly stated that CNN International, an American news channel, chose Wat Arun, Bangkok, as a live broadcast location to represent Thai identity under the concept “Wichit Arun” on New Year’s Eve Live celebrations.
Wichit Arun is a highlight to promote tourism activities in December 2023 by TAT at Nagaraphirom Park, Bangkok as a celebration night on December 31st. The fireworks will be displayed under the theme of Wichit Arun divided into nine acts showcasing Thai identity.
Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan, famously known shortly as Wat Arun, is one of the spectacular landmarks in Thailand known for its prestige and religious center.
However, Wichit Arun is a part of the Thailand Winter Festivals event, which is organized according to the Thai government policy to promote festival soft power, and also create memorable moments in celebrating festivals for foreign tourists.
CNN International will also live broadcast the New Year celebrations from various locations around the world such as Sydney, Tokyo City, and Times Square.
In Bangkok, Iconsiam will hold the Amazing Thailand Countdown 2024 from December 29th to the 31st under the concept of The Unrivaled Phenomenon of SIAM with many famous Thai artists participating such as GOT7. There will also be tremendous firework displays and a 3D Drone Celebration Show with more than 2,000 units.
Moreover, Centralworld Bangkok Countdown 2024, is the New Year countdown that has been held for more than 20 years by Centralworld, the shopping mall. It will be under the concept of Funtastic Future with world-class entertainment such as digital fireworks displays and 63 musical artists from Thailand and overseas.
In Nakhon Ratchasima, KORAT WINTER FESTIVAL & COUNTDOWN 2024 will be held at Korat City Hall under a carnival theme with 15 imported rides and 10,000 tonnes of fireworks displays.
In Chiang Mai, Thae Pae Gate and Central Festival are popular destinations for the New Year celebrations among both Thais and foreigners. CHIANGMAI COUNTDOWN 2024 is the biggest event in north Thailand.
