Sri Racha Man Dies from Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Sri Racha —

Sri Racha police are investigating a possible suicide incident in which a man, believed to have been high on illegal drugs, reportedly shot himself to death in the chest.

On December 27th, 2023, at around 5:00 PM, a 31-year-old Thai man, whose identity was withheld pending family permission, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a rental room in the Nongkham sub-district, Sri Racha district, Chonburi province.

According to a Sri Racha police report, the victim was discovered lying face-up near the door of the rental room with a gunshot wound to the chest. A homemade .38 caliber pistol was found beside him, which is being investigated as the suicide weapon.

Witnesses reported hearing two loud gunshots before finding the victim’s body. Sri Racha police are currently interviewing Mr. Chaow Rattanawari, the 60-year-old caretaker of the rental room, and Ms. Thitima Chaiyat, the victim’s 27-year-old wife, to gather more information about the incident.

Ms. Thitima told police that her husband was a fruit vendor. He had been struggling with drug addiction for some time. The wife said she argued with the victim before the incident, telling him to quit using drugs, which led him to draw out his gun and shoot it into the roof twice. Fearing for her safety, Ms. Thitima left the room before returning to find her husband dead. She believed that the shooting may have been drug-related.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chaow, the room caretaker, mentioned that a previous tenant of the same room had committed suicide by hanging, but he was unsure if there was any connection between the two incidents.

Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the victim’s death. They are also investigating the possibility of drug use being a factor in the incident.
