A white pickup truck allegedly obstructed an ambulance rushing to aid a foreign tourist experiencing chest tightness in Pattaya. The incident, captured on video and shared online on December 25th, 2023, has sparked outrage and calls for traffic awareness in the popular resort city.
The incident occurred near an unnamed condominium near the incident scene where a foreign national, believed to be a Russian man, was reported to have experienced chest tightness. According to Mr. Taveeporn (last name withheld), a 48-year-old poster of the viral video and eyewitness to the incident, emergency personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation were called in to assess the situation and coordinate an ambulance response.
However, as the ambulance approached the condominium complex, a white Isuzu D-Max pickup truck was seen deliberately blocking it from taking a U-turn at the condominium entrance, Mr. Taveeporn said. The eyewitness, who has lived abroad, expressed shock at the incident, stating that in other countries, drivers would immediately clear the path for ambulances and turn off their engines to facilitate passage.
Mr. Taveeporn emphasized the importance of giving way to ambulances, regardless of the perceived severity of the situation. His video has garnered numerous comments on TikTok, mostly criticizing the driver of the pickup truck.
