At 9:00 AM, on December 23rd, 2023, Thai narcotics control board officers disposed of 15.7 tonnes of illicit substances under the “Set Zero” operation by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Thai Ministry of Public Health.
The “Set Zero” operation was initiated to dispose of more than 340 tonnes of seized drugs from 836,081 cases by incineration.
However, to dispose of the illicit substances, the officials had to inspect the amount of weight according to the list of the seized drugs and perform preliminary verification including 10 tonnes of amphetamines, 4.3 tonnes of methamphetamine, 167 kilograms of heroin, and other illicit substances with a total of 15.7 tonnes. The officials then transported the illicit substances to dispose of by incinerating them.
During the transportation, videos and images were recorded for transparency and police teams would escort the transport truck for 24 hours.
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said he is determined to eradicate illicit substances in order not to cause problems to the Thai people and planned to incinerate the illicit substances every two months with a total of 20 tonnes.
