UPDATE: Chonburi Police Chief Orders Probe into Journalist Shooting in Pattaya

Pattaya —

Following the shooting of journalist Natthapat Buncharee, the Chonburi Provincial Police Chief has assured a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

First our previous story:

The investigation into the shooting of Pattaya-based journalist Natthapat Buncharee, who remains in critical condition at Chonburi Hospital, continues with the suspect in custody awaiting further interrogation.

Now for our update:

The shooting, which occurred on December 13th, has garnered significant public attention due to speculation regarding potential underlying motives.

Mr. Natthapat, a journalist under the “Athip Burapha” media outlet owned by his father Mr. Athipbodi Buncharee, who for transparency reasons also works with TPN Media providing freelance news, was shot with a shotgun in the early morning hours of December 13th, leaving him seriously injured. His father and his wife are eagerly awaiting his full recovery to facilitate his cooperation with the police investigation.

Shadows of doubt swirl around the shooting, with Mr. Natthapat’s father raising concerns. According to Mr. Athipbodi, he is still doubtful about the suspect’s claims that the suspect shot his son out of anger following a minor traffic altercation. Mr. Athipbodi cast doubt on the suspect’s real motive, suspecting it might have something to do with Mr. Natthapat’s profession and there might be other associates.

Mr. Athipbodi pointed out that reporters and journalists in Pattaya often report on criminal activities and criminal groups, gaining possible enemies who may want to inflict personal harm on journalists, who are just doing their job reporting news.

Responding to the father’s concerns, Chonburi police chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Thawatchakiat Jindakuansong pledged a thorough investigation. He said relevant officers are committed to exploring all avenues and expanding the inquiry based on further details and potential leads. Pattaya police have also been tasked with delving deeper into the case to uncover any additional contributing factors.

As of December 18th, Mr. Natthapat’s condition has shown encouraging signs of improvement. He can now move his hands, and the breathing tube has been removed. It is still believed that his sight may be at least partially impacted by the horrific shooting.
