Sattahip —

Sattahip authorities recovered the body of a foreign national in Sattahip waters on December 16th, 2023. They are looking into the possibility that the recovered body may be connected to four persons reportedly lost far off Jomtien Beach earlier this week.

On Saturday, Sattahip police received a report from a tourist about a deceased person found floating near Koh Nang Ram, Samae San sub-district, Sattahip district, Chonburi province. The location of the incident was about 3 kilometers offshore, to the north.

The deceased was a bald male aged between 50-60 years old, with features resembling a foreigner. He was found wearing only blue shorts. No identification documents were discovered on him, and no signs of injury or foul play were detected during the initial examination. It is estimated that he had been deceased for 3-5 days, and decomposition had begun.

According to Sattahip police, the cause of death remains a mystery. The military navy and rescue units collaborated to retrieve the body onto a kayak before using a speedboat to pull him back to the shore. The body was then sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police Hospital for identity verification and determination of the cause of death.

Pol. Capt. Kritsada Intachote, deputy investigator of Sattahip Police Station, revealed that police are looking into a possible correlation between the recovered body and the four individuals reported floating far off Jomtien Beach at night on Tuesday, December 12th.

This incident was reported by a hotel employee who said he was alerted by a hotel guest that there were four people floating around 400-500 meters from the shore around 6 PM. The report prompted hours of searching, which was eventually suspended due to lack of concrete information, and authorities believing it might have been a false alarm.

However, Pol. Capt. Kritsada disclosed that as of now, there is no report of a missing person in the vicinity of the incident. If anyone believes they may know the person or if there are concerns about a missing relative, they can contact the Sattahip Rescue Unit or Sattahip Police Station 24/7.
