Two Indian men died while four other Indian nationals have sustained injuries after a minivan traveling from Hat Yai heading to Bangkok collided with a truck in Chumphon.
The Tha Sae Police was notified of the accident at 1:00 A.M. on Saturday (December 9th) on the Petch Kasem Road in Na Kra Tam, Tha Sae district.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a slightly damaged truck on the road. The truck driver, Mr. Kraisorn Klinsawang, 32, who was not injured, was waiting at the scene for law enforcement.
The damaged minivan was found overturned in a ditch off the road. Two people were found dead inside the minivan who were identified only as MR. NANDALAL, 25, and MR. MOHAMED, 28, both Indian nationals.
Five other people sustained injuries who were four Indian tourists and the minivan driver Mr. Niroj Kongsuk, 50, from Nakhon Si Thammarat. They were all taken to a nearby hospital. Three Indian nationals were not injured.
The Tha Sae Police said the minivan was carrying ten Indian tourists from Hat Yai in Songkhla heading to Bangkok. When the minivan arrived at the scene of the accident, the truck was in the right lane to take a U-turn. The minivan, which was coming from behind, was unable to stop before crashing into the truck and losing control.
The Tha Sae Police are continuing their investigation for further potential legal action as of press time.
This is not the first minivan accident in Thailand involving foreign tourists.
