On December 7th, 2023, Thai tourist police performed an investigation into the case of a Chinese woman posting a video on social media regarding her claiming Soi Nana, Sukhumvit Soi 4, Bangkok, was a dangerous place for women.
She faces legal action following the viral video, not so much for her statements but for working online without a work permit by monetizing her content and selling products online, as we reported here.
According to a report by the tourist police, Mr. Sakon, whose last name was withheld, the Director of Nana Hotel, reportedly said that Soi Nana is a popular and safe tourist street for both Thai and foreigners. In the case of the Chinese woman, the video showed that she wore an eye-catching short skirt which might catch the attention of people on the street, said Sakon.
Thai tourist police publicly stated to Thai media that Soi Nana has regular patrol units to keep the street safe according to the strong tourism community (STC) which enhances the security of lives and property of the tourists to its highest.
Furthermore, the tourist police also performed a field inspection and surveyed the tourists on the street both Chinese and European. With positive feedback, the tourists feel safe and confident in the tourist police protocol.
