Thai Minister of Transport Initiates 20 Baht Electric Train Rides for Connecting Stations on Purple and Red Lines

Bangkok—

On November 30th, 2023, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, the Thai Minister of Transport, publicly revealed the first day of the new 20 baht electric train ride policy on Purple and Red lines using EMV cards to reduce cross-platform transportation fares.

The fares are set at 20 baht on the connecting lines between the MRT Purple Line: Tao Poon – Khlong Bang Phai, and Red Line: Bang Sue-Rangsit and Bang Sue-Taling Chan.

The connecting lines are at Bang Son Station and passengers need to pay via EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa) card at the maximum fare of 20 baht in 30 minutes while changing the electric train between Purple and Red lines. If passengers take longer than 30 minutes, the fares will be calculated at 42 baht.

Furthermore, the passengers can only use EMV cards via the Gate EMV while changing the electric train as cash and other unauthorized methods via Gate EMV are not available.

The available EMV cards are credit cards such as MasterCard and Visa cards for all Thai banks, or debit cards such as MasterCard and Visa cards of Krungthai Bank and UOB only.
