National —
Thailand’s Cabinet on Tuesday approved in principle a draft clean air act to reduce pollution.
The draft law, originally proposed by the Thai Ministry of Natural Resource and Environment, received a green light from Thai ministers during the November 28th meeting.
According to Patcharawat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and the Environment Minister, the draft Clean Air Management Act B.E. aims to prevent air pollution that have gripped the nation and optimize government responses against polluters.
The bill’s focus is to remove obstacles in addressing smoke problems from forest fires and enhance collaboration between state agencies, businesses, and civil groups.
A committee, specifically tasked with addressing the air pollution, will be established and chaired by the Prime Minister. The committee will come up with strategic measures to control air pollution from four main sources in the long run, including pollution caused by business establishments, open-air burning, vehicles, and transboundary sources.
