On November 22nd, 2023, Thai highway police officers captured a 22-wheel lorry driver for possession of firearms without permission in public areas on Phra Prathon-Ban Bo Road, Mueang Nakhon Pathom, Nakhon Pathom.
The alleged driver was publicly identified only as Mr. Jirapat, 47, with an unregistered 9 mm firearm and four bullets.
According to the report from the highway police officers, the officers were performing their duty of checking truck weight exceeding the legal limits, until Jirapat who drove a 22-wheel lorry heading at high speed on the right lane was asked to stop for inspection.
However, Jirapat reportedly acted suspiciously and panicked despite following the legal weight limit, said highway police. The highway police officers then searched inside Jirapat’s lorry and found the firearm and ammunition.
Initially, Jirapat reportedly confessed to possessing the unregistered firearm as he claimed he kept it for self-defense in case of a road brawl. The Muang Nakhon Pathom police officers escorted Jirapat to the police station and confiscated the unregistered firearm as evidence for further legal process.
