Chiang Mai—
On November 23rd, 2023, Mr. Wisut Khamyod, the Deputy Director of the Chiang Mai International Airport, revealed to Thai national media regarding about the upcoming Loy Krathong or Lantern Festival in Chiang Mai from November 27th to 28th that a total of 160 flights will be canceled and rescheduled.
A total of 101 flights will be canceled and 59 flights will be rescheduled, both domestic and international flights, according to the festival times at night.
However, the change will not affect aerial services as the airlines have informed passengers in advance to manage their travel plans accordingly.
As for the campaign about releasing floating lanterns safely, the Chiang Mai International Airport has sent a letter requesting cooperation from relevant agencies on guidelines called “Do’s and Don’ts” during the Loy Krathong Festival. This details spots where floating lanterns and other similar objects are prohibited near aerial traveling routes.
From November 25th to the 28th of 2023, the Lantern Festival will be held in Chiang Mai as event preparation is in process along the Ping River. The event has fascinating decorations such as hanging lanterns, Krathongs, and other vivid objects with over 2,000 units.
Furthermore, relevant agencies performed a field inspection on piers along the Ping River for safety and strengthening of the landings.
During the Lantern Festival, there will be many activities representing Thai culture and local wisdom including handicrafts, singing contests, ferry services, and many more to look forward to.
