Allegedly Intoxicated Driver Injured After Car Overturns in Pattaya

Pattaya —

A Thai driver, whom Pattaya police stated was under the influence of alcohol, sustained moderate injuries after his car overturned on Sukhumvit Road early this morning.

The mishap was reported to Pattaya police at 4:30 AM today, November 21st, in Pattaya, Banglamung district, Chonburi province. Police officers and the rescue unit rushed to the accident scene on Sukhumvit Road inbound to Sattahip and found a bronze Toyota sedan overturned on a median strip.

The 40-year-old driver, identified only as Kriangrit, had suffered a cut on his head. Pattaya police reported that the Thai man was intoxicated, as he admitted to having a party with his friends and consuming alcohol before the accident. The man was heading back to Sattahip. He received basic medical assistance at the scene before being transferred to a local hospital for an alcohol test.

A road cleaner and eyewitness to the accident, 44-year-old Pornthip Damiam, told police that while she was sweeping the road, she observed a pickup truck speeding past her before swerving to avoid the city’s water truck and crashing into a median strip. After the incident, she promptly contacted rescue authorities for assistance.

Pattaya police revealed that they will later summon Mr. Kriangrit for drunk driving charges after he makes a recovery from the hospital.
