Juveniles Protest at Nakhon Ratchasima Detention Center, Seeking Justice and Leader’s Transfer

Nakhon Ratchasima—

On November 10th, 2023, more than 40 juveniles protested at a juvenile detention center in Nakhon Ratchasima as protest leaders reportedly asked for justice from juvenile correctional officers who they claimed harassed and punished them wrongfully.

However, protest leaders reportedly demanded their activist leader, whose name was withheld due to their age, to be transferred back to the facility.

The officers successfully persuaded the protestors to stop any violent protesting and stop destroying assets in buildings and escorted 36 protest leaders to Nakhon Ratchasima and Chonburi Central Prisons.

On November 11th, 2023, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister, gave instruction and emphasized to Mr. Sayam Sirimongkol, the Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, on discussion and prohibited any physically harmful acts to youth.
There should be no physical violence against youths by government officials as understanding is a key to solving the problem, said Anutin.
As of press time, the situation was under control and officers took hold of protest leaders in custody. It was reported that there were precautionary measures made to prevent similar incidents from third parties.
