Pattaya Mayor Plans Meeting to Discuss Upcoming 4 AM Bar Closing Policy

Pattaya —

Mr. Poramase Ngampiches, the Mayor of Pattaya, is set to convene a special meeting to discuss preparations for the upcoming 4 AM closing time for nightlife establishments in legal entertainment zones.

The meeting was in response to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s announcement to allow the country’s nighttime venues, including clubs and bars, to operate until 4 AM in a bid to spur the economy.

The policy, slated for implementation on December 15th, will be applicable in four sandbox provinces including Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Chonburi, the home of the resort city of Pattaya. This aims to better align the opening hours of nightspots with the nocturnal preferences of international tourists coming to explore Thailand’s late-night scenes, PM Srettha said.

According to Mr. Poramase, venues that will get to enjoy this benefit are those currently situated in the legal entertainment zones, such as the west side of Third Road, Walking Street, and LK Metro area only. However, the mayor dropped a hint that the city might consider broadening the two-decade-old restrictive zoning laws further in the future after conducting more studies and public hearings.

Initially, he will meet with the Chonburi governor and Region 2 Police soon at the Chonburi City Hall to review existing regulations to ensure that the extension has minimal disruption to local residents and to maintain the safety of tourists.

Mr. Poramase also expressed extra concern about the potential worsening of noise pollution, noting that Pattaya city had received over 700 noise complaints against entertainment venues over the past year. He emphasized his intention to specifically address this issue with the entertainment venues both before and during the implementation of the extension.
