Tuk-Tuk Driver Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting British and Indian Tourists in Bangkok


On November 7th, 2023, Lumpini police officers captured a tuk-tuk driver who allegedly hit British and Indian tourists with a steel wrench in Pathumwan, Bangkok, on November 5th.

According to the report from Lumpini police, an investigation on local CCTV found the alleged suspect and a tuk-tuk’s license plate. The alleged suspect was later identified as Mr. Atthaphon Phiw-on, 32.

Atthaphon reportedly confessed his wrongdoings that he committed physical assault by hitting both foreign tourists in the head with a steel wrench because they could not agree on a fare and there was a language barrier.

Atthaphon allegedly claimed that the tourists attempted to hurt him and his actions were in self-defense. He then reportedly grabbed the steel wrench kept in his tuk-tuk and hit them before fleeing away.
Initially, the Lumpini inquiry officers conducted further investigation and took hold of Atthaphon for legal proceedings.

The names of the victims were withheld for their privacy.
