Sattahip —

An elderly man fell into the sea in Chonburi province’s Sattahip district after blacking out on a surfboard. Luckily, he was later found safe.

Sattahip rescue workers received a report on Monday, November 6th, that a person was stranded in the middle of the sea, clinging to a surfboard, in the Gulf of Sattahip. The person was reported to have fallen from his surfboard near the Naval Medical Department of Sattahip, Sattahip district, Chonburi province. The rescue team then rushed to help.

At the scene, rescue workers found a man adrift in the sea about half a nautical mile from the shore. The rescue team subsequently paddled out to assist and safely brought him ashore. The individual, a Thai elderly male whose name and age remain unknown, sustained no injuries. He rode his motorcycle back home after thanking the rescuers.

According to Mr. Chanchai Chiewchan, one of the rescuers, the man told him that he had paddled out to sea to fish for squid. As he was in the middle of the Gulf of Sattahip, he started to feel dizzy and blacked out.

The man said he woke up in the water but experienced severe back pain that prevented him from getting on top of the surfboard. He also attempted to paddle towards the shore by himself but the distance was too great. Fortunately, someone spotted him and alerted the rescue team, leading to his safe rescue.
