5,100 Kilograms of Illegal Meat Seized in Chonburi

Chonburi —

The Chonburi Department of Livestock confiscated over 5,100 kilograms of illicit animal carcasses found in the Pong area of Chonburi’s Banglamung district.

The operation took place yesterday, November 3rd, and was led by Deputy Director of the Chonburi Department of Livestock Pol. Col. Chakkraphong Panmongkol.

Authorities searched several refrigerated containers at an unnamed processing site in Pong, following a complaint alleging that unlawful import, processing, and distribution of raw meat was being conducted at the site.

The investigation revealed that 2,600 kilograms of buffalo meat, purportedly imported from India, and 2,500 kilograms of cow meat from Argentina, Panama, Uruguay, and New Zealand, lacked the necessary import documentation. Consequently, the entire 5,100 kilograms of these animal carcasses were seized for further scrutiny.

Pol. Col. Chakkraphong stated that operators of the site are required to provide the required documents to officials within 15 days. Failure to comply will result in legal action under Sections 22 and 31 of the Animal Epidemics Act. The authorities did not immediately name the site’s operators.
