The Thai Prime Minister visited the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to discuss further economic development between the two countries connected via rail systems, roads, and bridges.

At 9:45 AM, on October 30th, 2023, Mr. Srettha Thavisin, the Thai Prime Minister, officially visited the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) and paid respect to Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, the President of Laos, and discussed issues with Mr. Saysomphone Phomvihane, the President of the National Council of Lao PDR, and other political figures.

“The topics in focus during the visit were international trade and investment, clean energy cooperation, international transportation connected on rail systems, roads and bridges, logistics transportation, cooperation to solve security problems, and air pollution PM 2.5 problems,” said Mr. Chai Watcharong, the Government Spokesperson.

Thongloun gladly welcomed Srettha and commented on the long and close diplomatic relationship between Thailand and Laos. “The cooperation and discussions today will provide further opportunities for the steady development of both countries and their citizens,” stated Chai.

Chai further added that Srettha was eager to shake hands with Lao PDR in terms of increasing the volume of border trades and promoting connections between the two countries via roads and rail systems.

The train stations connected between borders would encourage the exchanges between the two countries on tourism, and job opportunities. Furthermore, wide-ranged transportation would stimulate economic activities in the border areas of the two countries and generate income for the local community as well.
