Surin—
At 10:00 PM, on October 27th, 2023, more than 35 fire trucks were dispatched to extinguish the fires at the Thai-Cambodian Border Market or Chong Chom Market in Kap Choeng, Surin.
On October 28th, 2023, Surin forensic evidence officers performed a field inspection to collect evidence. As a result, the cause of the fires started from the north side of the market before spreading quickly to adjacent stalls that stored clothes, woven products, and other flammable products. Moreover, strong winds at night fanned the fires even more.
Initially, more than 290 stalls were affected and damaged with an estimated value of 150 million baht.
However, local relevant agencies established a temporary Office of Response and Recovery and a mental health office from local hospitals to aid the Cambodian and Thai victims mentally and physically. Furthermore, a donation of drinking water and consumer goods was opened to relieve the victims.
