Naval Officer Driving Against Traffic Killed in Sattahip Motorbike Accident

A sergeant major in the Royal Thai Navy was killed in a motorbike collision in the Sattahip district on Thursday night, October 26th. The victim allegedly drove against traffic before colliding with a power pole by accident.

The tragic collision occurred on Sukhumvit Road heading towards Phlu Ta Luang in the Sattahip district, Chonburi province yesterday. Rescue workers and Sattahip police arrived at the scene to inspect the situation.

There, they found the deceased victim, identified by police as 22-year-old Sergeant Major Thanaphon Phetsathien, lying face down on the traffic island. He was located some distance away from his significantly damaged Yamaha XMAX motorbike. The victim succumbed to severe neck injuries.

According to his ID card, Thanaphon was a naval officer affiliated with the Air Combat and Coastal Defense Command, Royal Thai Navy. His military gear, including a cap and a belt, along with a knife, were collected as evidence by police for further examination. The officer’s body was transferred to Sattahip Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Based on CCTV footage released by the police, the victim was traversing on his motorbike against the direction of traffic. He then suddenly lost control and collided head-on with a power pole, resulting in his immediate demise. Police were examining additional evidence, including the victim’s dashcam, to confirm the cause of the accident.
