Pattaya —

Business operators in Pattaya are urging city officials to address a street accident involving a British tourist who tripped over a road stud and ended up with a broken nose.

The incident has brought wider attention to the conditions of various sidewalks and paths across Pattaya.

On Tuesday, October 24th, Mrs. Lamphueng ‘Lisa’ Hamilton, chairperson of the Pattaya Nightlife Business Association, revealed to local media that road studs on a street near Jomtien Beach have become quite an issue for pedestrians. This comes after several tourists tripped over them, resulting in injuries, some of which were serious.

According to Mrs. Lamphueng, an unidentified British tourist recently stumbled on a road stud and hit his face on the street. The tourist’s nose was fractured, and he was rushed to a local hospital.

The accident was clearly captured on a surveillance camera of a nearby business. It showed the tourist tripping over a road stud, causing him to lose balance and lunge forward before hitting his face on the ground. Mrs. Lamphueng provided the footage to the media for publication.

She went on to say that a Canadian tourist had succumbed to the same accident in the area before, but this tourist had suffered worse injuries, including three broken ribs. The unidentified visitor couldn’t walk for a while afterwards and eventually returned to his home country, Mrs. Lamphueng said.

Mrs. Lamphueng believed that Pattaya officials should seriously address this issue because if more incidents like this occur, it will tarnish the tourism image of Pattaya.

She added that she has reported the incident to Pattaya City several times, and the only response she received was that the city is aware of the issue. She also said that in addition to pedestrians stumbling, the road studs also cause frequent motorcycle accidents.

The unfortunate incident also led to a vigorous discussion on social media around overall road and sidewalk conditions in Pattaya which many residents feel are sorely lacking safety standards and regular maintenance.
