Thailand’s Muslim Spiritual Leader Dies Days After His Brother was Stabbed to Death

Following the announcement of Office of the Sheikhul Islam regarding H.E. Mr. Aziz Phitakkumpon, the 18th Sheikhul Islam of the Kingdom of Thailand, who was receiving medical treatment under Royal Patronage at Chulalongkorn Hospital and returned to the mercy of Allah on Sunday, 22 October 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to express its deepest condolences to his family and to the Muslim community in Thailand on this sad occasion of his passing. May Allah’s grace be upon you in this difficult and somber moment.

Last Saturday, a 42-year-old man attacked his brother, Loh Phitakkumpol, 71, with a 50-centimeter-long knife, repeatedly stabbing him on a roadside in Sing Nakhon district of Songkhla.

The suspect, Rohim Kongkalimeen, a local resident who was reported to be under the influence of narcotics, was apprehended by the police. Unfortunately, Loh passed away due to his injuries at Songkhla Hospital.
