Pattaya —

A Thai man, suspected to be under the influence of illegal drugs, set fire to his granny’s house in Pattaya but thankfully no injuries were reported.

The heartbreaking story unfolded at 3 PM on October 16th at a house located in Soi Thung Klom Tan Man 13 within the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

The Nongprue fire department and emergency responders arrived at the two-story house and witnessed a plume of smoke billowing out of the premises. It took them about 15 minutes to extinguish the fire, but the property inside the house suffered significant damage.

55-year-old Good Samaritan Somchai Promchat told local media that he helped the house owner, 73-year-old Sawai Chanthong and her unidentified granddaughter, out of the house when the fire took place.

Mrs. Sawai, meanwhile, said that her grandson who was not identified by the local media set fire to her house for unknown reasons. Prior to the arson, the grandson had acted erratically for a few days before, which Mrs. Sawai said may be because of illegal substances he took.

The suspect was later arrested and taken to the Nongprue Police Station for a drug test and further legal proceedings.
