Thai Police Arrest Tour Company Owners for Allegedly Illegally Facilitating Employment Abroad

National —

Thai police captured alleged illegal employment facilitators having a tour company as a facade business.

On October 14th, 2023, the Anti Trafficking In Person Division (ATPD) team and the highway police team captured a suspect identified only as Mr. Sirawut, 39-years-old, at Khlong Sam Wa, Bangkok, on the criminal court’s arrest warrant. Mr. Sirawut faced charges of facilitating employment abroad without authorization, deception to obtain property, and property fraud.

ATPD police officers publicly stated that Sirawut and his wife, who wasn’t named by police, established a tour company as a facade for facilitating employment abroad to South Korea as illegal migrants. Sirawut claimed to have a connection with someone from South Korea who could facilitate victims to work there.

The victims would have to pay for employment proceedings at 40,000-50,000 baht each. However, the victims could not travel to South Korea, only a few of them did. As a result, many victims who fell for the false advertisements reported to ATPD officials which led to the issuance of arrest warrants.

However, Sirawut reportedly denied the allegations and was escorted to inquiry officials for further legal proceedings.
