18-Year-Old Pattaya Man Arrested for Selling Illegal Guns

Pattaya —

An 18-year-old Thai man was arrested and charged with selling illegal guns in Pattaya. Going by the title “Oat Pacha (Oat Graveyard),” the alleged gunrunner sold the firearms online for 15,000 baht.

Pattaya police are cracking down on illegal firearms, in alignment with the national police chief’s campaign. This effort comes after a recent shooting spree at a Bangkok shopping mall carried out by a 14-year-old Thai national.

The investigation team, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Kritsada Wan, learned that a Thai person who went by the moniker “Oat Pacha” was selling illegal firearms in the Pattaya area through Facebook. They then contacted the suspect to arrange an in-person purchase of one gun at a price of 15,000 baht. The officers scheduled to meet with the suspect at a condominium complex in South Pattaya on October 12th.

When the appointed time came, Oat Pacha arrived at the condominium on a motorbike where he faced his apprehension. Faced with evidence of chat conversations with the undercover police on his phone, the suspect confessed to hiding the ordered firearm at his residence in Soi 2 in South Pattaya.

The police officers subsequently went to the location and found a homemade .38 caliber handgun, which they seized as evidence.

Oat Pacha, whose real name was withheld by police, claimed to have obtained a gun for 12,000 baht from a person named Prea. Initially, he was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm. Pattaya police stated they will conduct further investigation to locate the individual mentioned by the suspect.
