Pattaya Motorcyclist Suffers Severe Injuries After Collision with Chinese Benz Driver

Pattaya —

A Mercedes-Benz driven by a Chinese national cut off a 52-year-old motorcyclist on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya yesterday evening, leading to the latter sustaining severe injuries.

The accident, reported at 3 PM on October 10th, took place on Sukhumvit Road at the mouth of Soi Sukhumvit 50/1 in the Nongprue area of Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

The emergency responders and Pattaya police rushed to the scene to find the injured person identified as 52-year-old Laem Thammasa, stuck beneath a black Mercedes-Benz. His motorbike was found fallen nearby.

The Thai victim had lost consciousness and suffered several severe injuries including fractured ribs, a broken hip and bleeding from his mouth and nose.

To rescue the victim from underneath the vehicle, the rescue team had to use a tow truck to lift the Mercedes-Benz. First aid was administered before the victim was transported to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

The Pattaya News interviewed 31-year-old eyewitness Anuwat Songsamran. He said he observed the Mercedes-Benz attempting to turn into Soi Sukhumvit 50/1 from the U-turn on a busy road.

The car was about to reach the mouth of the alley when the victim, who was traveling in the leftmost lane at moderate speed, failed to notice it and collided head-on with the car. The impact sent the victim onto the road, where the Mercedes-Benz subsequently ran over him.

Pattaya Police identified the Mercedes-Benz driver as 31-year-old Ms. Yin Yin, a Chinese national. Due to language barriers, she did not provide a statement at the scene and declined to speak to the press.

Yin Yin was taken to the Pattaya Police Station to be interviewed before being reportedly charged for reckless driving causing injuries to others, Pattaya Police told The Pattaya News.
