An arrest warrant is being prepared for an unidentified migrant worker who Bangkok Police believe may be involved in the death of a former Thai ambassador to Denmark. The ambassador’s body was discovered on October 8th under various suspicious circumstances.

Pol Maj-Gen Atthaphon Anusit, commander of the 2nd division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, told Thai media that Sutthisan police are planning to seek an arrest warrant against a migrant worker from a neighbouring country for allegedly murdering the former ambassador in his townhouse in Soi Vibhavadi Rangsit 20 in Bangkok.
According to the officer, the ex-ambassador identified only as “Wichit” was found deceased in the second-floor bathroom of his residence on Sunday, October 8th. His body was found while being covered with several cardboard boxes, and it appeared that the victim also suffered stab wounds to his chest.
A knife and two blood-stained kitchen knives were discovered by police in the kitchen on the ground floor. Pol Maj-Gen Atthaphon also mentioned that the first and second floors of the ex-ambassador’s house had apparently been ransacked.
At the moment, Sutthisan police are requesting an arrest warrant against a migrant worker whose name has been withheld due to concerns that it might compromise the investigation, Pol Maj-Gen Atthaphon said.
He went on to say that the victim previously hired repairmen to do a renovation on his house, which finished one month ago. The victim then moved into the premises on September 9th and had mysteriously lost contact with his relatives since September 27th.
Pol Maj-Gen Atthaphon stated to Thai media that the suspect might have murdered the victim as part of a robbery attempt based on the scene of the incident. There were no signs that suggested a forced intrusion at any points of entry to the house, which indicated that the victim might have voluntarily allowed the suspect to enter the house, the officer added.
Yesterday, October 8th, Sutthisan police interviewed a group of people of interest including a 17-year-old boy, whom the victim had treated like a step son, his 15-year-old friend and the parents, as well as two repairmen, but no charges have been filed against them.
The main suspect is believed to still be in Thailand, Pol Maj-Gen Atthaphon concluded.
