First our previous stories:

Mr. Itthiphol Khunpluem, the former mayor of Pattaya and former Thai Minister of Culture, has absconded Thailand for Cambodia by air, after he was wanted for alleged malfeasance involving his issuance of an improper construction permit to the Waterfront condo project.

Efforts are being made to prevent the statute of limitations from expiring for the wanted former Pattaya mayor, Itthiphol Kunplome, who has fled an arrest warrant, related to his involvement in the Waterfront condominium project, to Cambodia to avoid possible legal consequences.

One of the prominent aides of the former Pattaya City Mayor has surrendered himself to relevant officials after he allegedly was involved in a Waterfront condominium project construction permit that allegedly involved corruption.

Now for the update:

At 10:00 A.M. on Monday (October 9th) Immigration Officers at the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan arrested Mr. Itthiphol after he arrived from Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He was taken to the Office of the Attorney General Region 2 for his Corruption Case.

Mr. Itthiphol said to the press with a confident smile ‘I have come back to Thailand with my lawyer following the issuing of the arrest warrant.’ He did not make any other comment.

Itthiphol is accused of alleged corruption related charges connected with the Waterfront Condo project in Pattaya, a long standing white elephant at Bali Hai Pier.

Mr. Khunplume was later released on bail for about 120,000 baht and a promise to appear on court on October 31st.
