Khao Kheow Open Zoo to Celebrate 5th Birthday of Thailand’s Second Hybrid Elephant “Nong Saen Rak”

Pattaya —

Khao Kheow Open Zoo is inviting everyone to celebrate the 5th birthday of “Nong Saen Rak,” a hybrid elephant and the second of its kind in Thailand. The event will take place on October 8th, 2023, and will feature a variety of activities, including elephant feeding, elephant shows, and an exhibition showcasing the history of “Nong Saen Rak” and her special abilities.

Mr. Anupong Anont, the Assistant Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, revealed that “Nong Saen Rak” is the first female Asian elephant born from artificial insemination conducted by the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand, Kasetsart University’s Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and the National Institute of Health.

She is the result of successful artificial insemination carried out from December 26th to 28th, 2016, with “Jim,” a female elephant, as a donor. She was born on October 8th, 2018.

Mr. Anupong further explained that the zoo is preparing a special event to celebrate Nong Saen Rak’s birthday, including a variety of vegetables and fruits, bananas, sugar cane, corn, watermelon, dragon fruit, carrots, pumpkins, and hay for her to enjoy. Visitors and children are invited to participate in this event to celebrate the birthday, take close-up photos with the elephants, and watch the elephant show.

During the event, there would also be an exhibition showcasing the history of Nong Saen Rak, her special abilities, and an opportunity for visitors to support the Wildlife Fund. Donations will be used to cover expenses for food, medical care, medication, and equipment to enhance the animals’ quality of life.
