Chiang Mai —

The Chiang Mai Postmaster reported to relevant police officers asking them to track down a foreign couple allegedly stealing motorcycle helmets from post office staff before riding away.

At 9:30 PM, on October 2nd, 2023, Mr. Kraisri Thongvilas, 47-years-old, Mae Ping Postmaster, Mueang, Chiang Mai, gathered videos from CCTVs and reported them to investigators at the Chiang Mai Provincial Police Station.

Mr. Kraisri told Chiang Mai Police that 2 postal officers’ helmets went missing and so he then checked the CCTVs. What he found was a couple of foreigners, pale skinned and assumed to be tourists, rode a red motorcycle and appeared to steal 2 red Thai post helmets from the front of the post office at 11:20 AM on the same day.

Chiang Mai police later revealed to the press that there was a police checkpoint for traffic near the post office around the same time as the incident; under Thai law a motorcycle rider and a passenger must wear their helmets lest they be fined up to 2,000 baht. As a result, Chiang Mai police believe the foreign couple stole the helmets to successfully get through the checkpoint without a fine but by doing so may have now got themselves into further trouble.

Chiang Mai police officers will conduct a further investigation to capture the suspects for legal proceedings.
