Pattaya/Koh Larn-

A young Thai woman was killed and an unidentified foreign man was missing after apparently being struck by a speedboat while swimming off of Koh Larn last night, September 25th, 2023 at sunset.

The tragic incident took place around 4:00 P.M. off of Tian Beach on Koh Larn. Witnesses stated a young Thai woman and a foreign man went swimming together when a speedboat seemingly delivering tourists nearby allegedly went into the swimming area and struck at least the woman. The boat reportedly paused briefly after striking the couple and then sped away.

The woman was later found floating deceased in the water off of Koh Larn and had signs of propeller marks from a boat across her body. She was later identified but her name has been withheld by The Pattaya News pending contact to her family and friends.

As of press time, the unidentified foreign man remained missing with divers searching the area.

The speedboat captain, as stated, appeared to have fled the scene following the incident but Pattaya police are searching for the individual responsible by using CCTV, witness testimony, and logs from nearby piers.

According to Pol. Col. Thanaphong Phothi, Pattaya City Police Station Chief, they had identified the boat captain as of late Monday night, September 25th, 2023, and were trying to track the suspect down for prosecution.

Witnesses from Tian Beach stated the couple had rented a beach bed and had left behind a phone and several personal possessions when they went swimming which Pattaya police took into custody as evidence. It was later revealed that the woman had rented a room in her name at a resort on the island, whose name was withheld due to the pending investigation, prior to the tragic incident.
