The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is welcoming the rise in spiritual and cultural tourism by sponsoring an e-book titled “Connecting to Spiritual Thailand: A Guide to 60 Powerspots”, showcasing captivating sites in Thailand linked to faith and culture.
Globally, faith-based tourism is growing, expected to triple in economic value over the next decade. Thailand has witnessed a surge in domestic and Asian tourists engaging in faith-based travel, known as the “Sai Mu Economy.” Recognizing these trends, TAT is using new communication tools to enhance Thailand’s appeal to diverse foreign tourists.
The 100-page e-book, authored in English by experienced travel writers, offers insight into Thai religious practices. It features 60 lesser-known spiritual sites, including city pillars, dragon shrines, sacred caves, and unique trees, cherished by locals for their spiritual significance.
The featured sites span Thailand, from a Bangkok shrine dedicated to the powerful ghost Mae Nak Phrakhanong to Kham Chanot in Udon Thani, home to naga serpents. They also include a mass pilgrimage to a mountain-top Buddha Footprint in Khao Khitchakut, Chanthaburi, and the cosmological city pillar of Chiang Rai.
The e-book highlights various sites, including a shrine dedicated to the late pop megastar Pumpuang Duangjan in Suphanburi and Wat Khao Or, which is known as a school of black magic established by Brahmans in Phatthalung. Readers, especially international tourists, will be provided with extensive details about each location, including its historical context, cultural importance, ceremonial practices, and visitor guidelines.
