Pattaya Officials Establish Fixed Rate for Speedboat Fare to Koh Larn

Pattaya —

Pattaya and Banglamung district officials convened on September 23rd to establish a uniform pricing for speedboat ticket to Koh Larn to tackle confusion and intense competition among operators.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Mr. Wuttisak Rermkijakarn, the deputy mayor of Pattaya, Mr. Phisit Sirisawadinukul, the Banglamung district chief, and Pol. Lt. Col. Surachet Aneksri, the deputy superintendent of the Pattaya Police Station.

The main issue addressed at the meeting was the pricing of speedboat tickets from Bali Hai Pier to Koh Larn, operated by private speedboat operators.

Authorities pointed out that the pricing was too diverse, causing confusion among visitors. The lack of standard fare also led operators to undercut each others on the prices, which could potentially lead to physical confrontations.

To address the ununified pricing, Pattaya authorities passed a resolution to standardize the ticket fare, setting it at 300 baht for a round trip and 150 baht for a one-way trip. This doesn’t include, of course, renting an entire boat privately for oneself but rather going in a full boat group.

This applied to all speedboats starting from September 23rd.

Previously, the city imposed a ban on speedboat operators from aggressively herding visitors to sell their services. The restriction followed a violent and viral fight between operators vying for customers at Bali Hai Pier in August.
