Pattaya Driver Crashes Into Power Pole, Tries to Escape

A driver in Nongprue this morning who was possibly intoxicated crashed into a power pole and then attempted to escape, say police.

Captain Surachai Chuaikoon of the Nongprue Police was notified of the accident in the early morning of Thursday (September 21st) in Soi Phon Prapa Nimit 6. Emergency responders and the Pattaya News arrived at the scene to find a damaged SUV had crashed into a high voltage power pole.

The driver, Mr. Woraphon Kerdphonngam, 43, was found in the driver’s seat and he seemed to be intoxicated. Despite the presence of reporters and rescue teams Woraphon was continually trying to start the heavily damaged car to drive away. However, rescue workers were able to stop him and remove him from the car before calling the police. He was not injured.

Mr. Woraphon was taken to the Nongprue Police Station for a blood alcohol test. CCTV footage nearby shows that the car was swerving wildly between traffic lanes before crashing into the power pole.

Nongprue Police have yet to identify if any charges will be pressed against Woraphon.
