Pattaya Driver Blames Accidental Gear Shift After Plunging Vehicle Into Canal

Pattaya —

A 41-year-old driver of Thai nationality attributed the cause of his accident to a misjudged gear shift. This revelation came after he was rescued from his pickup truck that had plunged into a canal in Pattaya at 4 PM on Saturday, September 16th.

41-year-old Mr. Thawatchai Yaemket was rescued unharmed after his truck plummeted into a canal in Soi Suk Samboon in the Nongprue sub-district, Banglamung district, Chonburi province.

Thawatchai was stuck inside his vehicle and was rescued by Sawang Boriboon emergency responders. His grey Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck with Roi Et license plates was found partially submerged in the canal. Fortunately, the water level was not high, only reaching about halfway up the truck’s wheels.

Mr. Thawatchai asked not to go to a hospital since he was not injured. He explained that while shifting gears, he made an error and chose the wrong gear, causing the vehicle to lurch forward. Losing control and unable to regain it, the truck skidded and plunged into the canal, trapping Mr. Thawatchai inside.

The truck was slightly damaged.
