Bangkok –
A Turkish fitness trainer was arrested in Bangkok after he allegedly defrauded wealthy Thai women an amount of millions of baht with an investment scam.
Police from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) told TPN media that on Monday (September 4th) they arrested a man identified only as Mr. Onur, 43, a Turkish national and Thai ex-pat, at a hotel on Ladprao Road in Samsen Nok, Huai Khwang.
The arrest followed the Phra Kha Nong Provincial Court issuing an arrest warrant in March of 2015 for him over the accusation of fraud. He was taken to the Udomsuk Police Station. Mr. Onur has denied all the charges, claiming innocence, but not released further statements to the Thai press.
The ECD Police told TPN media that Mr. Onur is a handsome fitness trainer who has many wealthy Thai female customers. Many victims fell in love with him before he persuaded them to invest with a car care shop in the Udomsuk area. However, after he got money from them, he disappeared. There were reportedly many victims with the loss of millions of baht according to police reports.
Mr. Onur remained in custody as of press time.
