An eyewitness to the accident, Mr. Usmal Songsrithong, 24, told police that he saw a sedan crash into the victim, identified later as Mr. Payung Yubun, 32. The sedan swerved to overtake another vehicle at a high speed before it lost control and crashed into Mr. Payung’s motorcycle sidecar, knocking it over and causing it to catch on fire.

Mr. Payung lost consciousness and was rushed to a hospital. His grilled chicken was scattered all over the road.

Police interviewed the involved sedan driver, Ms. Thanyalak Phopan, a 30-year-old art teacher. She claimed that she was driving at a speed of only 80 kilometers per hour as she descended from an overpass. She did not remember how she crashed into the victim, only hearing a loud noise. She immediately called the authorities after seeing the victim and was described by police as cooperative.

Police were reviewing CCTV footage from the accident scene to determine the exact cause of the collision.
