During questioning, Chanachai initially denied the allegations, but later admitted to touching the child in sensitive places because he alleged the child had been bitten by an insect. He claimed to have used an ointment to soothe the affected area and said that he had taken good care of the child out of love.

However, Pol. Lt. Col. Thanatat Chan-im, the deputy chief of investigation, said that Chanachai has a history of indecent acts. In 2003, he was convicted of two indecency offenses in Sisaket province and served time in prison. He was released in 2018 and moved to the area where the alleged molestation took place.

The child’s grandmother, who took care of the child while her mother was away at work, said that Chanachai often visited the child to play with her in the room. She was shocked to learn of his history.

Chanachai is currently detained and the investigation is ongoing.
