Norwegian Man Hangs Himself in Pattaya

Pattaya —

A Norwegian man hanged himself inside his house in Pattaya on Thursday, August 31st.

The suicide was reported to the Pattaya Police Station half an hour past midnight today, prompting the police and rescue services to rush to a house located in the Banglamung District, Chonburi province.

There, the body of a 52-year-old Norwegian man was found hanging by a nylon rope around his neck attached to a roof beam. The name of the victim has been withheld by The Pattaya News, as per standard editorial policy, until his family and embassy are notified.

The rescue team brought the body down and upon the police’s examination of the deceased, no signs of injury or foul play were found.

Mr. Tud, 50, the older brother of the victim’s Thai girlfriend, shared that the deceased had been allegedly feeling upset with his girlfriend because he had found out that she had secretly worked in a bar, however others dispute his statements, see below. TPN media also notes that some sources said she was his legal wife, other sources disputed this and said she was only his girlfriend, but felt we would state this for transparency purposes.

The couple had arguments every day regarding her occupation, according to Tud. Today, when the deceased’s girlfriend returned home from work, she was shocked to find that her foreign boyfriend had hanged himself at the back of the house. She immediately called the authorities for help.

However, friends of the victim online and on social media have disputed the report of Mr. Tud, stating that his comments were incorrect and that she was not secretly working as they were both involved in the business, which was new, and that the passing was sudden and unexpected.

The Pattaya News has also withheld the name of the victim’s girlfriend to protect her privacy.

The police recorded the incident and will later inform the Norwegian embassy. The body was sent to a local hospital for an autopsy. The Pattaya News gives its sincerest condolences to his friends and family.

This was the second suicide of a foreigner in Pattaya in two days, as we reported here.
