Chonburi —

A Thai man who allegedly beat his wife to death with a mortar (as in a mortar and pestle) was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, August 15th, by Chonburi police.

Koh Chan police identified the suspect as Mr. Teeraphan Banchang, 30. He was arrested today in the Koh Chan district of Chonburi following the gruesome alleged murder of his wife, Mrs. Usamanee Nanual, 36.

Early this morning, Usamanee was found dead with severe head injuries on the ground in front of her residence. Bloodstains leading from her body to the kitchen were discovered on the floor, suggesting that she may have been dragged from the kitchen, according to police.

The woman’s upper body was undressed, with a white T-shirt covering her head. A small, freshly dug-up pit was found nearby, along with a knife.

Upon entering the kitchen, the police found a stone mortar with bloodstains. They believe that the suspect used the mortar to smash the victim’s head, resulting in her death.

While police were examining the scene, a white Honda CR-V sedan drove up to the house. The driver, Mr. Teeraphan, who was also the husband of the victim, stepped out of the car and was arrested.

Without directly confessing to the murder, Teeraphan reportedly admitted that the motivation behind his action stemmed from a family dispute. He alleged that the victim reportedly cheated on him with another man before refusing to speak further.

Police have charged Teeraphan with murder and are currently holding him in custody. The investigation is ongoing.
