Rayong —

A Pattaya native killed himself at a shooting range in Rayong province Tuesday afternoon, August 8th.

The shooting was reported to Thai police about 3:30 PM on August 8th. It occurred at a shooting range of the Royal Thai Naval Air Division, near U-Tapao Airport in the Ban Chang district.

Police responding to the incident were accompanied by doctors from Ban Chang Hospital and charity foundation rescuers.

Upon arriving at the scene, they found a Thai man, later publicly identified as Mr. Chatchai Ankaratporn, 40, a Pattaya native, lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his right temple.

The police collected from him a 9mm pistol dropped nearby. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital.

An unidentified gun instructor informed police that the man arrived at the shooting range in his pickup truck. He then rented a gun with 20 bullets, and after finishing filling up the magazine, he suddenly immediately shot himself in the head before instructors could intervene.

The instructor also noted that the man had visited the range to shoot a gun before and had been no issue. His motive was still under investigation and his family was informed.
