The 61-year-old German, whose name is withheld by The Pattaya News to protect his privacy, stood on the outer ledge of his top-floor condominium located on Soi Bunkanchanaram in the Nongprue sub-district, Chonburi’s Banglamung district, since 3 AM on August 3rd, wearing nothing but only his underpants that he eventually took off.

Acting erratically and uncooperatively, the man hurled objects down from his condo while frightfully pacing back and front on the outer ledge, causing alarm to witnesses.

His Thai wife, who asked not to name her, notified Pattaya police and rescue workers after the man refused to return to the room.

She blamed the cause of her husband’s frantic behaviors on a heavy session of marijuana and a legal case overseas.

Finally at 11:30 AM, the Sawang Boriboon rescue team and police were able to grab the man and pull him into safety. The man was exhausted after spending over 8 hours on the balcony ledge. The rescue team transferred him to a hospital while also helping to calm his emotions.

As of press time, the man still refused to give any statement to the police. An investigation to determine whether he had used stronger substances or experienced mental health issues will be conducted, according to police.

Pattaya police noted that the man did not appear to be trult suicidal but rather stressed and upset.
